Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 9, 2026
Snack is made by Crimson IO LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what Snack does with your information. The short version: your health and food data stays on your device and in your own iCloud account, and Snack has no servers that can see it.
What stays on your device
The information you enter and generate in Snack — your profile (sex, date of birth, height, weight, activity level), food and water logs, weight entries, custom foods and recipes — is stored on your device using Apple's SwiftData, and synced across your own devices through your personal iCloud account (CloudKit). We do not operate servers that store this data, and we cannot read it.
Apple Health
On iPhone, and only with your permission, Snack reads active energy burned, steps, workouts, weight, height, date of birth, and biological sex from Apple Health, and can write the calories, weight, and water you log back to it. This is how your calorie target adjusts to the day you actually had.
Apple Health data never leaves your device. It is not sent to us or to any third party. You can review or revoke Snack's Health access at any time in the iOS Settings app under Health → Data Access & Devices → Snack.
Camera
If you use the barcode scanner or nutrition-label scanner, Snack uses your camera to read the code or label. That processing happens entirely on your device using Apple's Vision framework. Images are not uploaded or stored by us.
AI Quick Add
When you describe a meal in plain language, Snack estimates it using Apple's on-device Foundation Models. The description is processed on your iPhone; it is not sent to us or to any external AI service.
When information leaves your device
A few features contact outside services. Only what's needed for that feature is sent, and never your health data:
- Food search & barcodes — When you search for a food or scan a barcode, the search term or barcode number is sent to Open Food Facts and the USDA FoodData Central database to return nutrition information. No personal information is included.
- iCloud sync — Your Snack data syncs through your own iCloud account, governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We never see the contents.
- Subscriptions — Snack uses Adapty to manage App Store subscriptions. To verify your subscription, it processes your App Store transaction, a device identifier, and your subscription status. Your Apple ID, from Sign in with Apple, is shared for this purpose only. This is used solely to run your subscription — never for advertising, profiling, or tracking.
Sign in with Apple
Snack uses Sign in with Apple to create and secure your account, and signing in is required to use the app. We receive the name and email address — or Apple's private relay address — that Apple provides. This identifies your account for subscription management only; it is never used for advertising, profiling, or tracking. It is stored on your device and shared with Adapty (see Subscriptions above) to run your subscription. You can delete your account and this information at any time from Snack's Settings.
What we don't do
Snack has no analytics SDKs, no advertising, and no third-party trackers. We do not sell, rent, or trade your information. Diagnostic breadcrumbs used to investigate crashes are kept on your device only.
Your choices
From Snack's Settings you can export your data and permanently delete your account — this removes your profile, food and water logs, weight entries, custom foods, recipes, and your Apple identity from your device and your iCloud. You can revoke Health or camera permissions at any time in iOS Settings. If you delete the app, on-device data is removed; data in iCloud can be managed from your iCloud storage settings. Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription — manage that in Settings › Apple ID › Subscriptions. Subscription records are retained by Apple and Adapty for purchase verification, and Adapty may retain the name and email linked to your Apple ID; email us to request its deletion.
Children
Snack is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll post the update here with a new date.
